Snowflake is a part of the Snowflake Unified School District, consisting of Highland Primary School, Snowflake Intermediate School, Snowflake Junior High and Snowflake High School. Taylor Elementary School in the neighboring town of Taylor, Arizona is also part of the Snowflake Unified school District.

Northland Pioneer College's Silver Creek campus extension is located in Snowflake.

Snowflake experiences a four-season climate with a warm (sometimes hot) summer, mild autumn, mild to cold winter and cool, windy spring. Typical high temperatures hover around 90 °F (32 °C) during July and August and 30 to 55 °F (13 °C) in December/January.

The department services the communities of Snowflake and Taylor, Arizona. Currently the department has 21 employees: Five full time dispatchers, one administrative assistant/records clerk, one animal control officer and Fourteen full time certified police officers: Chief of Police, Lieutenant, Two Patrol Sergeants, One Detective Sergeant, One Detective, One Task Force Detective, One School Resource/DARE Officer, Six Patrol Officers and Two Reserve Officers. The police department is considering options to improve and grow the department. The Department’s focus is to progress with the needs of the growing communities.

The Snowflake and Taylor Fire Departments were joined by an Intergovernmental Agreement in 2015. Station 2 is the Snowflake location. While firefighters are often working at the station, as a volunteer department, the station is not manned 24 hours per day. Firefighters carry radios and respond when needed.
